My first blog and I think it fitting to start with a tribute to TV angling celebrity Kevin Green, editor of our sister title Improve Your Course Fishing.
Kev sadly passed away in late June after a short, aggressive illness. The church at his funeral was absolutely packed, not just with friends and work colleagues, but with some very big names in fishing too. Testament to the popularity of Kev and the high regard he was held in. Although there are people who knew him far better than I did, I think it was Bob Roberts who mentioned on his Facebook page a particular word that above all summed up ‘Greeny’ perfectly. This is what I put on my own page at the time...
On Friday we received the news we’d been dreading, think I might finally have found a couple of words. Three months or so ago Kev was striding around the office, his usual jovial self, sorting out his next feature or flat plan. Now we’ve lost him. Even if you’ve never read his magazine, you’ll probably have seen him on Discovery on shows such as Carp Crew or Predators. You might even have been fortunate enough to have done some work with himEven if you’ve never read his magazine, you’ll probably have seen him on Discovery on shows such as Carp Crew or Predators. You might even have been fortunate enough to have done some work with him. Even if you’ve never read his magazine, you’ve probably seen him on shows such as Predators and Carp Crew. You might even have been fortunate enough to work with him.
He was one of the most respected, enthusiastic and helpful figures in the industry. Kev was 40 years old, he’d just had his second child, cannot begin to comprehend what Jo and his eldest are going through. Such an unjust and premature end to a very good life. Why always the good guys? Things like this really put into perspective how quickly lives can change or even end. Live it while you can, never take anything for granted and never waste a single minute, day or opportunity. God bless you Kev, hope you get plenty of runs in that big lake in the sky…
And that word Bob Roberts mentioned? Integrity. A trait that many are sadly lacking in the angling world of today.
